Smashing Pumpkins mark 35 years of ‘Gish’ with special vinyl reissue

The Smashing Pumpkins band perform at Beale Street music festival Memphis^ Tennessee USA - 04-30-2022

The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating the 35th anniversary of their 1991 debut, Gish, with a newly pressed vinyl edition arriving May 29, the same week the album reaches the milestone.

The reissue will be offered in two 180-gram formats, both presented in the original 1991 artwork and packaging. A limited gray pressing splashed with pink and purple—reflecting the album’s cover design—will be sold at independent record stores and at frontman Billy Corgan’s Madame ZuZu’s tea shop in Highland Park, Illinois. A standard black vinyl version will also be widely available. Preorders are open – here.

Produced by Butch Vig at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin, Gish introduced the band’s fusion of classic rock crunch, hazy shoegaze textures, metallic riffs, and melodic pop instincts. The record features standout tracks including “I Am One,” “Siva,” and “Rhinoceros,” along with fan favorites such as “Snail,” “Daydream,” and “Bury Me.” Certified Platinum by the RIAA, the album set the foundation for the group’s ascent in the alternative rock world.
